Marketing EZGUI 4.0 Pro can be real challenge, especially when there are a number of alternatives for programming GUI's with Powerbasic.I understand that EZGUI is not the only way to develop PB apps and that the other Visual Designer tools available are quality tools.
I have been pondering where EZGUI's strengths lay and why some users eventually gravitate to other tools, while others stay committed to using EZGUI.
I may be wrong, but my best guess is that those who utilize EZGUI's features to the full, tend to stick with it, while those who use only a minor portion of its features (basic GUI development), are more likely to switch to something like FireFly, so they can create a GUI fast without any dependencies (DLL).
I still believe that no Visual Design tool for PB has as rich a feature set as does EZGUI.
Where I need your help (EZGUI 4.0 Pro users) is this:
I need some feedback from EZGUI 4.0 pro users who have pushed their EZGUI apps to the limit. This means those who have developed very complex applications, which take advantage of such things as the Visual Drag and Drop engine, Canvas control and Sprite engine, ownerdraw controls (many of them), game loop engine and high precision timing, customizing the Common Dialogs, advanced graphics of any kind, DIB Sections engine, complex layers (for more than Tab control), advanced printing, complex regions (for Forms, Canvas or Turtle control), etc.
Also apps that significantly use the following controls in interesting ways:
- Canvas control
- Turtle control
- Properties Listbox control
- Files Listbox control
- Drag Handle control
- Masked edit control
- MCI control
- Shape/Hot Spot control
What I need is some screenshots of your apps (which I can use on my web site), plus a detailed description of what the apps does and a link to any web sites associated with that software (if used commercially).
My marketing of EZGUI is likely to change in the future. Don't let the sales I have been having fool you. I am simply just trying to increase sales a bit during a difficult economy (meaning give people a break to afford it). I am also trying to boost the user base with EZGUI 4.0, so there is a larger customer base for upgrading to EZGUI 5.0 (which there will be). The price will go back to the normal $249.
EZGUI is worth the money, but only to those who take advantage of its rich feature set.
Why buy EZGUI to build an app which could be done easily with FireFly or PB Forms ?
I need to demontrate the "real" different between EZGUI and other tools. Only the high end, more complex EZGUI apps can demonstrate this.
In essence ....
I want to be able to show the kind of apps EZGUI users are building that would not only be very difficult to do using, say FireFly or PB Forms, but would be nearly impossible to do with such tools (unless you were a very advanced API programmer).
I created EZGUI, so I know what it is capable of. What I need is visible proof that customers have been able to tap into that vast feature set to push their apps to the limit.
I doubt very much, any other Visual Designer tool for PB could produce as complex and feature rich apps as can EZGUI.
As a point....
With Visual Basic, one reaches a point where there is only so much one can do with the core feature set, before one must resort to using ActiveX controls (especially third party ones). Most VB apps which have a feature rich GUI, most likely are using third party controls to significantly improve the GUI.
EZGUI has so many high level and low level features, that the possibilities for complex GUI's are nearly limitless. Does your app need a better listbox ? With EZGUI you simply create your own, using ownerdraw and the subclassing engine. The possibilities are endless.
I need to demonstrate this though for real, with real life examples of EZGUI applications that push EZGUI to the limits.
I am willing to showcase some of my customers apps on my web site which helps me, but also helps advertise your apps (or at minimum your programming skils using EZGUI).
If you have such an app, made with EZGUI 4.0 Pro (or Personal), then please email me some screenshots, a detailed description of what the app does, what features in EZGUI are utilitized the most and any web links to web sites you may have for the software.

I will be updating my web site before long with some real changes. Its about time it had a face lift.
