Chris

It appears that it is a design feature that the designer can not have focus as long as the editor (in my case PBEdit) is open after code is generated. It would be nice to have them both open at the same time and not have to close down the the editor before using the designer again. I'm sure you have a good reason for the way you have this action arranged but just wanted to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Sorry this got posted in the wrong forum- please move it to the questions forum

I'll make this answer a Tutorial:

Designer Freeze 101:

By default the Designer freezes when you generate code and your code editor displays. This is the prefered method, since I can't guarantee the results of reentering a code editor, by regenerating code, when it is left open will have. You have to understand that users will be using a variety of code editors, so I don't know what will happen if they do this.

This is why the default is to freeze the Designer until you exit the code editor.

That said, you can change this behaviour and its quite simple.

In the Project Properties dialog you will notice the property:

"Shell: Suspend Designer"

Simply by setting this property to "0 - No" you can turn off this default behavior.

But beware!

Test out your code editor with a test project and experiment and see what happens when you regenerate code while the source code is still loaded in the code editor.

As long as you understand any risks of turning off this property, then feel free to do so.
